BEST ONLY VINTAGE

At Best Only Vintage, my role included art direction, styling, photography, editing, social media, copywriting, graphic design, and the list goes on and on...

We curated a selection of vintage clothing that represented the life of America. I was contantly searching for photo textures, casting models, securing locations, and coordinating product placements.

We grew from 0 followers to over 1k. Eventually, any item posted on Instagram would sell within the hour via direct message. I focused on the people and tried to give them what they couldn't find themselves. Each order was a small piece of someone returning back—back to its home.

What's the point of investing time and energy into photography if every product you sell is a unique, one-off vintage piece that you'll never list again?

At Best Only Vintage, my responsibility was to define our brand, vision, and voice. Curated lifestyle shots communicated to our customers that we were passionate about more than just making a sale. This was our lifeblood.

Through my efforts, Best Only's photography archive amassed over 10,000 unique files that act as an inspiration resource for designers, museums, and collectors.

My passion for vintage was born out of a love for domestically produced goods. I had family that worked in big textile mills, soda factories, and on plantations. The labors of our workforce, our people, built our nation into what it is today.  There was a time a few decades ago where the only USA-made goods were vintage. Vintage clothing is about sustainability, reverence for those that came before us, and a vehement fight against materialism, fast fashion, and the unjust pay of workers overseas.

In 2018, vintage clothing is 'hot'. Everyone from the most famous rappers to Hollywood starlets wants the perfect vintage flannel or pair of jeans. That's a wonderful thing. I've sold concert tees that get posted a week later by Instagram celebrities with a million followers. Levi's purchased old jeans from me and musty old parkas were sent back to REI.  My work resonated with people, because I tapped into nostalgia. It's about finding that grown-up guy a pair of sneakers that he wore in his defining teen years.

Vintage clothing speaks to our history and aligns us with our past. Vintage is an antique that can be worn, used, and abused instead of getting sunbleached in an acrylic museum box. After I took the picture, it was the customer who got to tell the story.
